I live in British Columbia, Canada and the taxes here are fairly high.
I frequently think of escaping, but the lifestyle and climate still keep me here.
People still keep moving here.

I live in California, so I can attest to the high taxes. It looks like the state spending is going to be allot less in the near future, as we are looking at cutting 21.5 Billion out of this years remaining budget to make up for the projected revenue shortfall. I am originally from Missouri, which has lower taxes and living expenses. But I tell my friends when they ask about me moving back, I would take a 20% reduction in cost of living and an 80% pay cut. It may be worthwhile for the truly wealthy (i.e., wealthy enough that they don't have to worry about making a living anymore) or retired to move to low tax states, but for me, I will just keep coughing it up for Sacramento and the teachers unions and stay here. We have a special election on a spending limits amendment tomorrow, so we will see how that goes. I have been reading about how these have been failures in other states, but what I am seeing is that the politicians will produce a crisis to scare people into repealing it. When I retire I will move to a more tax friendly state, but there may not be any by that time.
