I love reading about the other side of making resolutions, "What you should not be doing". Always helpful when formulating ones goals for 2009!

Good tips.
While goals need to be specific, you also have to track them and make yourself accountable.
Also, I won't be buying a new car - my 1994 Ford Tempo drives just fine.
Finally, goals should be made/updated year-round, rather than at year-end.
Cheers!

I won't be making any New Year's resolutions since, if I want to change something in my life, I just do it rather than wait for an arbitrary day of the year.

And you're right, if you do decide to make changes, then they have to be measurable and have goals. That way you know what you're aiming for and also how well you're doing. Of course, this only makes sense with things that are inside your control (unlike the stock market).

These are really good tips. I agree - people must be specific. I know every broad resolution I ever made - I failed.

"Become debt free," how about "pay off my Chase card!"
